Samsung Biologics is set to launch a coronavirus vaccine from Moderna. Samsung Electronics will be responsible for keeping the production sites clean.
At the moment, the biotechnology department of the South Korean company is carrying out preparatory activities. On July 28, it was reported that Moderna is having trouble with one of its facilities in Switzerland that manufactures undiluted drug solutions and supplies them to Samsung Biologics. How this problem will affect the speed of setting up the production process is not yet clear.
Should the difficulties be overcome, Samsung Biologics will set up a production system when the vaccine concentrate arrives first. Samsung Electronics will be responsible for the order at production sites during the manufacturing process, which will use its own technology for clean rooms. This will increase the speed and quality of drug release.
Moderna has opted for South Korea as the only contracted vaccine country in the world, excluding the United States and Europe. With vaccination rates at a much lower level in the Asian region than in the US and European countries, repeated supply disruptions will be detrimental to Asia in general and Korea in particular.
