The Pixalate organization provided a report, according to which over 800 thousand programs were removed from app stores in the first half of 2021. It is noteworthy that most of them were aimed at an audience under 12 years old.
The report was generated as a result of the analytical work of the organization, designed to assist developers in identifying possible threats to violate data privacy and adherence to service rules. In the process of work, the specialists studied over 5 million applications. As a result, 15% of these programs were removed for various reasons.
Before their removal, the eliminated programs from Google Play had over 9 billion downloads, and in the Apple store they had about 21 million ratings from users. According to the report, 86% and 89% of apps removed from Google and Apple playmarkets were targeted at audiences under twelve. It is noted that most of the programs did not have a privacy policy. It is curious that 26% of applications from Google Play were distributed in the Russian segment of the market.
Approximately 66% of deleted apps from Google Play had at least one possibly dubious permission to ensure the availability of sensitive user information and affect the OS and other programs. Thus, almost 27% of such applications had accessibility to geographic location and 19% to a smartphone camera.
It was also indicated that programs removed from marketplaces already installed on the device can continue to have a negative impact on the mobile device.
