The authorities in the French capital will forcefully limit the speed of rental electric scooters to 10 km/h. The reason for this was a lot of accidents involving pedestrians and drivers of these vehicles. The restrictions should take effect from the beginning of this December. It will be possible to exceed the speed limit only on a few streets where there is a wide carriageway for scooters.
The authorities have previously tried to take action on this issue. Thus, the district administrations have allocated about 700 zones where restrictions were to begin to operate. The initiative did not lead to the desired results, so it was decided to take more stringent measures. According to statistics for the current year, there were 298 scooter accidents on the streets of Paris, where 329 people were injured, and two more died.
Earlier, 16 scooter rental operators submitted applications for the implementation of activities in Paris, and only three companies managed to get permission. In the fall, in the French capital, the speed of vehicles was limited to 30 km/h, which caused an ambiguous reaction from residents.
Speed limits for rental scooters are not limited to Paris. So, in Moscow and Kiev there are also bans on exceeding the speed limit: in the Russian capital, 25 and 15 km/h for streets and areas with a large number of pedestrians, and in the Ukrainian capital - 20 and 14 km/h for the same places, respectively.
