Professor of Meiji University (Japan) Khomei Miyashita has created a prototype TV display that can convey the taste of the dishes depicted. Earlier in 2020, Miyashita showed off a flavor synthesizer.
The development was named Taste the TV (TTTV), which translates as "try TV". It uses ten containers with chemical additives to convey taste. When creating the desired flavor combination, the constituent elements are mixed in certain proportions. The mixture is then transferred to the hygienic casing covering the screen. The viewer needs to lick the screen to get a taste. The creator of the technology is convinced that its development will allow users to better interact with the outside world, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. So, people will have the opportunity, for example, to taste the dishes of a restaurant on the opposite side of the world, while staying at home. In addition, TTTV will help train sommeliers and cooks, and will also find application in tasting games and quizzes.
The prototype of the device was created in just 1 year. The release of the commercial version will cost 100 thousand yen ($ 875).
