An artificial intelligence-based algorithm is able to predict the place of illegal actions with an accuracy of up to 300 meters. Testing showed that 90% of the predictions were accurate. Cinema lovers could see similar technology in the 2002 film Minority Report by Steven Spielberg with Tom Cruise in the title role.

The operation of the algorithm is based on the division of the city into squares with a strict 300 meters. AI analyzes places where crimes are likely to take place, based on predictions and identification of patterns using publicly available data. The tests were conducted using information about crime in Chicago, the 3rd most populous city in the United States. In addition, the algorithm has successfully shown itself in 7 more cities.

It is worth noting that scientists consider the use of this technology for law enforcement directly not very appropriate, despite its high accuracy. They argue their opinion by the fact that a high concentration of police officers in locations where illegal actions are supposed to be committed can lead to a change in the simulation conditions. This, in turn, will lead to a decrease in the efficiency and accuracy of forecasts. Therefore, researchers advise using technology as a tool for urban policy and the creation of new police strategies to counter criminal activity.
