Qualcomm has expanded its line of mobile chips. The new processor is designed specifically for smart glasses with augmented reality features. Among the features of the chipset, it is necessary to note increased performance, support for Wi-Fi 7 and a modular design that can significantly reduce the size of electronics.

When creating the processor, the company paid special attention to compact dimensions, high performance with reduced power consumption. To fulfill the plan, the platform was divided into three parts. The first is an AR chip that is responsible for the operation of the screens and processing of the video stream from the cameras. It is 40% smaller than Snapdragon XR2, but 2.5 times faster in AI scenarios. At the same time, it also consumes twice as much energy.

The second part is an auxiliary processor that combines camera and sensor data. It uses iris authentication and tracks their location. Due to it, you can save on rendering images, increasing the quality of textures especially in those areas of the display where the user is looking.

The third part is the communication module. The FastConnect 7800 system, which supports the Wi-Fi 7 standard, will process controller data with six degrees of freedom and will be responsible for positioning based on information obtained from cameras. Qualcomm says that the modular configuration will allow the gadget to use 45% less wires and will make it possible to increase the balance of the device.

Qualcomm does not intend to manufacture its own glasses, so OEM partners will take care of it. The platform has already been adopted by such well-known vendors as Lenovo, OPPO, Sharp, TCL, etc. It is still unknown when the first smart glasses with Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 will appear.
