The SI system has not been updated for thirty years. The maximum and maximum small values were added to it.
The addition of terms was initiated by the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL). The introduction of notation was voted on by scientists and government officials at the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM).
Thus, the following concepts arose in the SI system:
Scientists believe that the scientific community has been in need of fresh designations for a long time. Most of all, this was important for chemistry, in which there is a need to express a large number of molecular compounds. Prior to this, new terms were introduced back in 1991, then, at the request of the same chemists, the concepts of zeta (1021) and yotta (1024) were introduced into the SI system. The head of the NFL metrology department, Richard Brown, said that these names were introduced because only the letters R and Q were not used for other values.
Now, using updated terminology, we can say that our planet has a mass of approximately 6 ronnagrams. It is likely that in a couple of decades the SI system will have to introduce even more terms for even larger notations.
