Android 14 will no longer be able to install legacy apps. It's all Google's fault

The upcoming version of the "green robot" will have a new security rule, which was discovered in the beta build code. Insiders have discovered that Android 14 will block outdated versions of programs and games. The user will not be able to download them either from the official Google Play marketplace or install them using the APK file.



The thing is that in Android 14 there will be stricter requirements for the API. The OS will begin blocking the installation of software designed for outdated system versions (Android 6.0 Marshmallow and older). Also, the new OS will receive a mechanism for gradually increasing restrictions, so that the bar can be raised in the future. In addition, some developers of firmware based on Android will be able to acquire the ability to independently set similar restrictions.

The developer responsible for these restrictions explains this by increasing the level of OS protection against various threats. He says that a number of malware targets older versions of the OS to bypass some of the protections implemented in current builds of Android. It is assumed that the forced installation of old software will be possible through tools for developers. This approach should reduce the risk of accidental malware infection from dubious sources.
