It is known that the operating system from Google is loyal to third-party app stores. But there is no limit to perfection.

The company intends to expand the integration of such services, which will practically equalize their rights with the official Google Play.

At the moment, nothing prevents the user from downloading the APK file from any third-party app store, but in the future the software will be able to update via Google Play. The Android 14 beta build has received a new API that allows a third-party marketplace to “intercept” the update feed to become the main source.

The appropriate permission can be set during application installation. As a result, it will be unlinked from Google Play. Another innovation in Android 14 will be the ability to check the current user interaction with the program to carry the automatic update to the end of the session. In addition, marketplaces will be allowed to directly inform the device owner that the software needs new permissions.

A stable custom build of Android 14 will be available in the second half of 2023.
