The corresponding patent has been sent for registration to the US Patent Office. The document indicates how the camera will work, as well as how it will cope with image distortion due to the translucent matrix.
Prior to this, Apple had already submitted for registration a patent relating to under-screen camera technology and Face ID sensors. The new document contains fresh technological details. For example, the device will be able to analyze the image from the front camera and apply certain digital filters to it. This will make it possible to optimize the quality of portrait shots and other images independently of each other, achieving optimal quality.
Face ID will have to function more simply: during a face scan, the display above the sensor will go dark and display the usual black notch. Analyst Ross Young believes that an iPhone with a smart camera under the screen will arrive on the market only by 2027, while in 2025 Apple will present a device with a small round cutout for the front camera and Face ID.
