A large syndicate for the production of counterfeit headphones consisted of nine underground workshops.
During the raid, Chinese police seized a huge amount of burnt products worth 167 million yuan (~$23.5 million). In total, law enforcement officers found 114 thousand pairs of headphones, of which 69 thousand were already prepared for shipment, and over 45 thousand were still being assembled and packaged. Four sets of equipment for counterfeiting products, over 50 thousand sets of packaging and about 10 thousand sets of spare parts were also seized.
In addition, police learned that counterfeit copies of AirPods were found in at least ten provinces and cities throughout China, including Guangdong, Shandong, Sichuan and Hainan. There is also a possibility that the headphones were sent abroad, but there is no confirmation of this yet.
According to experts, Apple lost $3 billion in 2021 due to the release of counterfeit copies of its devices.
