The Borderlands film adaptation flopped even before its theatrical release.
The film received negative reviews at test screenings.

Authoritative insider Daniel Richtman said that viewers at test screenings of the adaptation of the Borderlands game series were left perplexed by what they saw. Among the weak points of the film is the lack of character development, as well as the confusion and raggedness of the plot, coupled with its extreme simplicity. But the most criticized were the unfunny and sometimes downright nasty jokes.

It is curious that most films receive excellent or at least good reviews at test screenings: representatives of various media try to smooth out corners so as not to spoil relations with film makers. Apparently, this is not the case here, which is not surprising, because the film adaptation of Borderlands was accompanied by various problems during the production process. The film also received a teen rating of PG-13, which obviously does not please fans who are accustomed to cruelty in games in the series. The world premiere of the film will take place in August.
