The film adaptation of the game Sleeping Dogs, announced in 2017, starring Donnie Yen, will not be released after all

The actor and martial artist has confirmed that the project that once excited him and his fans is no longer in development.

The news of the production freeze is unlikely to surprise anyone, as the film has been largely silent in recent years. Donnie Yen has admitted that he has invested a significant amount of time, effort, and even his own money into the project, including writing script drafts and acquiring some rights. However, despite his enthusiasm and tenacity, the film has not received the green light.



The film was originally set to be directed by Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us), who is currently working on the action film Nobody 2 with Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), which is expected to premiere in August. However, even with such a name in the director's chair, the project has not managed to get past the stage of active development.



The game Sleeping Dogs, on which the film was supposed to be based, was released in 2012 and received high praise from players and critics. The project combines dynamic open-world gameplay with an exciting plot reminiscent of the GTA series, but with a police protagonist, an emphasis on oriental martial arts and the atmosphere of Hong Kong.
