Crysis creator explains why the game was so graphically demanding
When the shooter Crysis was released in 2007, it amazed players not only with its innovative gameplay, but also with graphics that were beyond the capabilities of most computers of the time. However, the high hardware requirements were not a mistake, but a conscious decision by the developers.

According to Cevat Yerli, one of the founders of Crytek, the team initially created Crysis with an eye to the future. The “very high” and “ultra” graphics settings were not intended for computers of 2007, but for more powerful hardware that would become available over the next three years. Thus, the game had to remain a benchmark for visual quality and not lose its relevance over time.

Yerli emphasized that the project was optimized taking into account the technologies of 2010 and later systems. Many users tried to squeeze the maximum out of the graphics immediately after the release, but these settings were originally intended for future hardware, which made the game visually “immortal”.

Crysis left a lasting mark on the industry, spawning the “Can it run Crysis?” meme and plenty of jokes about its demanding nature. Crytek is currently working on Crysis 4, but no new development details have been released since the project’s announcement in January 2022.
