Bloomberg journalist Mark Gourman gave a prediction about Apple's plans to equip devices with Face ID. According to his insider information, the Cupertino-based digital giant has plans to implement facial recognition in all of its personal computers, laptops, and mobile gadgets, including some older models.

Apple's goal is to bring Face ID to all of its main devices, Gourmet said. Previously, the company thought about abandoning the Touch ID interface in favor of the full use of face recognition, but the fingerprint scanner had to be left due to the economy and safety of the previous level of user data security, since it is a cheaper alternative for iPhone SE smartphones and older iPad models. The journalist also notes that the too thin cover of Mac laptops does not allow installing a depth sensor.

The insider also believes that the in-display camera will enable Apple to differentiate between more expensive devices that don't have a notch at the top of the display. Earlier, journalist Min-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone lineup will be deprived of the characteristic "bangs" at the top of the display in favor of a camera in a small round hole.

Apple has thought about incorporating Face ID into its laptops more than once. In the beta version of macOS Big Sur, references to the TrueDepth camera have already been found, which indicates the movement of developers in this direction.
