The German government plans to tighten requirements for smartphone manufacturers. In particular, we are talking about extending the timing of the release of software updates for seven years from the date of release of devices.
According to media reports, lawmakers want to increase the timeframe for the release of patches and components for new smartphones to reduce the volume of e-waste and increase safety for owners. As an example, the Windows operating system for PC is given, which has been supported by Microsoft for a long time.
It is not yet clear whether this law will be adopted or whether everything will remain only in the plans. According to some experts, after the debate, the European Commission may well address this issue.
