A group of enthusiastic students from the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation has developed a simple seawater desalination device. At the moment, the development is at the concept stage.
According to the authors' ideas, the device called WaterPod will be located directly afloat. A wick will be placed under the water, which should repel the salt from the bottom. Through the wick, the liquid will be absorbed into a piece of cloth placed under the aluminum hemisphere. Under the influence of sunlight, the water will evaporate and leave condensate, which will then go along the walls into a special container. Thus, according to the idea of the developers, the amount of salts in the water will significantly decrease, and it will become suitable for drinking.
To create the WaterPod, students were motivated by the growing problem of lack of drinking water in the world. At the moment, the authors want to get funding to conduct full testing of their product.
