Instagram is changing the concept of the IGTV service: it has received the name Instagram TV and will acquire new options for posting videos. The main change will be the option to download videos up to one hour in length directly to the main feed. Previously, videos longer than a minute had to be uploaded to IGTV.
According to a spokesperson for the social network, Instagram TV will become the place where users will want to go to watch videos. In addition, the IGTV feed will now be combined with the video, and can be accessed through a separate tab. It is also noted that the Reels short clip format will be available separately.
IGTV appeared on Instagram in June 2018, it was conceived as a mobile alternative to YouTube, that is, a place where users can watch long videos. Nevertheless, many did not accept this format very well, and two months later, the TikTok application was launched in the USA, which made up great competition for the social network. In turn, in order to attract an audience, Instagram developers introduced their own short video format Reels in August 2020, which also failed to impose a fight on competing platforms due to monetization problems for content authors.
