The PCI-SIG has approved the new PCI Express 6.0 specification. The standard will become twice as fast as its predecessor.

The maximum data transfer rate in the new specification will be 64 GT/s or up to 256 GB/s using sixteen lines. PCI Express 6.0 supports 4-layer Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM4) and supports Forwar Error Correction.

Al Janes, Chief Executive Officer of PCI-SIG, believes the new specification is important to impact data-intensive markets. The standard will find its application in many industries, including the development of AI systems and industrial production.

Janes notes that at the moment most large companies are approaching the integration of the PCIe 5.0 standard, and the appearance of the new version of the specification will push them to further development.
