NFT paintings and other similar works of modern art designers are gaining popularity. However, not everyone wants to define such non-fungible tokens as art objects.

Wikipedia refuses to consider NFT content an art form

So, one of the refuseniks was Wikipedia, whose editors do not want to classify these images as a form of art, which makes the crypto community very angry. Last December, five of the six editors of the free encyclopedia protested against the classification of NFT as art on the pages of the resource. As a result, they have been criticized by fashion trend followers. For example, Duncan Cock Foster, co-founder of the Nifty Gateway platform, expressed the opinion that this situation could become very deplorable for the arts.

Other adherents of NFT technology have a similar opinion. They believe that Wikipedia's refusal to recognize non-fungible tokens as one of the art forms will be a disaster for the entire crypto community. In their opinion, many users consider the encyclopedia a reliable source of information, therefore the non-recognition of NFT can adversely affect the digital market.

In turn, Wiki editors are privately willing to recognize individual NFT works as art. For example, this can be done for the canvas "Every day - the first 5000 days" by Mark Winkelmann. However, they do not consider the purchase of such content to be equal to the purchase of a real painting or sculpture. The leaders of Wikipedia are ready to consider individual cases, but at the moment they are not going to recognize the entire NFT segment as art.
