The network has spread the information that Google intends to switch to another file system with the release of Android 13.

In 2018, the company switched to Samsung's F2F2 file system, which was optimized for flash memory. This solution made it possible to use two system partitions, due to which updates were installed in the background, which made this process faster. Now there is information that with the release of the latest version of Android, Google will switch to a solution from HUAWEI called EROFS.

EROFS has several advantages. For example, this file system has a 20% increase in random read speed compared to EXT4, an already very outdated file system that does not have compression support. Also, the solution from HUAWEI allows you to increase the amount of internal memory on devices by approximately 2 GB and reduce the size of updates. In addition, EROFS increases the download speed of programs by almost 23%.

It is known that Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will receive Android 13 with EROFS out of the box. It is worth noting that this file system is already used on OPPO flagships.
