Owners of devices with outdated versions of the operating system will no longer be able to use the car's on-board system.

Google has almost imperceptibly updated the Android Auto support page on its website. The updated information states that now for wired pairing with the system, you must use a device with an OS version of at least the eighth iteration. Previously, this required a device with Android 6 or higher. Google also mentioned a certain "high-quality USB cable".

For Android Auto Wireless, which implies a wireless connection, the requirements have not changed. The feature is available for Pixel devices and select Samsung smartphones with Android 9, as well as for other devices of the Korean brand with Android 10, and for all other categories of devices with Android 11.

The company did not explain the reasons why the system requirements were increased. As of May 2022, devices on the old Android 6 accounted for 4% of the total number of devices running on the famous OS. At the same time, Android 8 accounted for about 12% of devices.
