The social network has been massively hacked. As a result, its source code, data weighing one terabyte, and accounts of the WeChat messenger disappeared.

The very first user to discover the leak is AgainstTheWest, who shared his observation on the Breach Forums portal. For unclear reasons, TikTok and WeChat account data was in the same place. In addition, digital thieves were able to obtain the source code of an internal backend stored in the Alibaba Cloud under a simple password.

In total, hackers stole 790 GB of data on 2.05 billion accounts. Presumably, we are talking about user TikTok profiles and the local version of the Douyin service. Now attackers and ordinary users are only studying the leaked information, so it’s too early to talk about the scale of the leak.

Microsoft cybersecurity specialist Troy Hunt will investigate the case. He believes that some of the data has already been made available to the public, and some of it is of no value at all. There is also an opinion that the posted information was not received from TikTok, but from a third party added to the social network for marketing or digital commerce.

TikTok has already commented on what is happening. The company assured that user safety is a company priority. They also reported on an internal investigation, as a result of which no evidence of a violation of security systems was found.
