Qualcomm has introduced new mobile chipsets for budget smartphones. They will replace the Snapdragon 600 and 400. The vendor claims a significant performance boost and support for 5G networks.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is based on a 4nm process. It has LPDDR5-500 RAM compatibility. The chipset architecture provides for four cores Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 (2.2 GHz) and a 5G module X51. The processor will also get support for 108 MP cameras with the ability to record video in 4K format and simultaneously shoot photos at 48 MP.

Supported wireless interfaces in the 6 Gen 1 specifications include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The vendor reports overall chipset performance gains and graphics upgrades of 40% and 35%, respectively, compared to previous chips. The first devices with this mobile platform should be released in the 1st quarter of next year. According to unconfirmed reports, these will be Motorola Moto G smartphones.



The even more budgetary Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will be 15% more productive than its predecessor, and in terms of graphics, the increase will be 10%. The processor will support 108 MP camera sensors, but video recording will be limited to 1080p. The chipset architecture contains a pair of high-performance Cortex-A78 cores and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. The mobile platform will debut in the 3rd quarter of this year.
