Qualcomm has worked on improving the architecture and process of its new flagship. Also, the platform received more computing power and acquired support for a number of new technologies.
The new chipset is based on a 4nm process technology. It has eight cores, increased by 35% and 40% in computing power and energy efficiency, respectively, compared to its predecessor in the face of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The novelty also has support for Wi-Fi 7, which complements Bluetooth 5.3 technology and the Snapdragon X70 5G modem.
Among other features of the SoC, it is worth noting support for camera sensors up to 200 megapixels. The chipset also received a new Hexagon neural auxiliary process, which, compared with its predecessor, accelerates the execution of scenarios related to artificial intelligence by 4.35 times. The list of these tasks includes real-time translation of speech into other languages, recognition of voice commands, processing of photographs and videos.
Qualcomm pays especially close attention to shooting capabilities. So, a fresh processor will be able to play 8K HDR video at 60 fps, while 8K video recording is possible at 30 fps. The power of the yet unnamed Adreno GPU is increased by 25% compared to its predecessor, and energy efficiency is increased by 45%.
Adreno will get support for QHD+ screens up to 144Hz or 4K @ 60Hz. In addition, the GPU supports ray tracing, API Vulcan 1.3 and OpenGL ES 3.2 technologies. The updated architecture of the platform is as follows: a large Cortex-X3 core (3.2 GHz), four high-performance (2.8 GHz) and a trio of energy-efficient (2.0 GHz).
