Tor Browser update will provide improved protection against deanonymization and data leakage

Secure Browser 12.0 is now available for Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms. An update for Android is coming soon.

The main innovations of Tor were the transition to the Firefox 102 ESR branch with improved support, the modernization of protection against surveillance, the introduction of new tools to increase privacy.



With the update, Tor will try to encrypt traffic wherever possible thanks to the HTTPS Only mode. In addition, the developers have taken care of other alternative ways to bypass blocking sites in environments that restrict all traffic except HTTP (PRC, North Korea). The full list of innovations is as follows:

• Improving the implementation of letterboxing (added padding to page elements to avoid deanonymization by window size)
• Closing the possibility of leaking the locale (regional settings) of the system through the API Intl
• Implementation of support for Apple Silicon processors
• The emergence of the possibility of disabling letterboxing
• Emergence of HTTP/2 Push support
