A Chinese company is raising funds for the release of a smart pen through crowdfunding. The device will be able to instantly translate text with high recognition accuracy. However, it does not require a separate computer.
The pen will be able to translate texts thanks to the built-in scanner. The owner of the gadget will only need to swipe the pen across the page, and it will recognize up to 99% of the words.
Mijia Dictionary Pen can function both autonomously due to the presence of its own color screen, and together with a proprietary utility for editing the translation, saving it to a file and further printing. The pen will support online translation into Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, German, Russian and other languages. Also, the device will support real-time voice translation and convert recording to text.
Xiaomi claims that the smart pen has a vocabulary of 15 million words. High quality translation will be provided by the firmware with the inclusion of the contents of several large dictionaries. It will be possible to scan the text line by line or fragments using the existing video camera.
At the moment, Xiaomi is running a crowdfunding campaign and asking $100 for the new product. Going forward, the company will sell the Mijia Dictionary Pen for $115.
