SpaceX has announced a new service in the form of global roaming from anywhere in the world. There were some unpleasant pitfalls.
The company sent a notification to a number of users about the new service. The mailing says that subscribers will have to pay a hefty $200/month for access to the extended coverage area. This expansion is achieved due to inter-satellite laser communication channels. It is clear from the text document that this will not be a full payment for access, but an extra charge for an already connected tariff. In addition, the service will be tied only to land areas, so it will not be an alternative to the Starlink Maritime tariff for merchant ships, oil rigs and premium yachts with a price tag of $5,000/month.
Interestingly, SpaceX already has a Starlink RV plan built for travelers for $135/month. For this money, users are provided with an increased access area, but its coverage is still limited, and users are deprived of priority access to the network. In addition, it must be said that the company's communication services are still not represented in several regions.
