The portable gaming console from Sony was released in 2004.
By 2012, about 76 million gadgets were sold. A little later, Sony stopped publishing information about the number of sales, and according to some estimates, another 6 million units have been sold since then. In total, 82.5 million PlayStation Portables were sold.
The latest sales data was shared by Sean Layden, former head of PlayStation. In a post on social networks, he said that in the period 2004-2014 the company released 82,523,607 consoles.
This figure is a huge success, and the PSP's successor, the PS Vita, was unable to repeat it. Much of the success of the original portable game console was due to the large library of games for the PSP. Thus, spin-offs God of War and Killzone appeared on laptops, and third-party studios were also developing projects. Also, over time, GTA, Metal Gear Solid and Tekken became available for the PSP.
