The impressive price tag was influenced not only by the unopened packaging and the venerable age of the device, but also by one more aspect.

Another unpacked iPhone (2007) was sold at auction for a fabulous sum

An original 2007 iPhone in original packaging was auctioned off at LCG Auctions. The initial price of the lot was $10,000, and as a result of the auction it increased to $130,027. At the time of release, the initial price tag for a device with 4 GB of permanent memory was $499, and for the 8 GB version – $599.

At the auction that ended, it was the model with 4 GB of memory that was presented. As the seller said, this particular version of the iPhone is more valued by collectors. The reason for this is the fact that in 2007, buyers preferred to overpay $100 and get the 8 GB version. Therefore, the 4 GB version was discontinued three months after its release, and as a result, fewer such smartphones were released. So now it is difficult to find this device in good condition.

It is curious that the transaction amount for a rare lot is not a record: in July 2023, the same iPhone was auctioned for almost 200 thousand dollars.
