Apple's budget smartphone will receive a new display matrix.
According to the Japanese publication Nikkei, which cites sources in the supply chain of electronic components, Apple should purchase screens with an OLED matrix for the new version of the budget iPhone SE from the Chinese company BOE and from the Koreans from LG. Previously, the devices of the line had Retina screens made using IPS technology. They were purchased from the Japanese companies Sharp and JDI. It is assumed that by switching to OLED, Apple will simplify the supply chain and reduce the cost of manufacturing devices.
Currently, Apple buys most of its screens from Samsung - 50% of the brand's devices are equipped with displays from the South Korean company. The second and third places in terms of shipment volume are occupied by LG and BOE (approximately 30% and 20%, respectively). In addition, the Nikkei publication notes that in 2024, the share of OLED display production will exceed the share of LCD screen production for smartphones for the first time in history.
