Study: Open-world games help reduce stress and improve mental health
Scientists are increasingly noting the beneficial effects of video games on a person’s mental state. A new study conducted by the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London examined the effects of open-world games on graduates of educational institutions who are keen on such titles.

The results showed that projects with large-scale game worlds provide an opportunity to relax, cope with stress and escape from the irritating factors of everyday life. The space for exploration and freedom of action allow players to control the pace of the gameplay, which creates an atmosphere of calm and improves mood. An analysis of data from 609 participants confirmed that such games have a positive effect on overall mental health.

Previously, scientists have repeatedly recorded the positive effects of video games. For example, moderate gaming sessions help to slow down brain aging, improve memory, attention and reasoning skills, and reduce the rate of cognitive degradation. The difference between gamers and non-gamers in tests of the “youth” of the brain was up to ten years, which highlights the benefits of gaming when taken sensibly.
