The combined box office receipts of the three Sonic films have exceeded the $1 billion mark. The first film earned $319 million, its sequel - $405 million, and the third film, released in December, added another $336 million. Moreover, the worldwide release of the third part is still ongoing, and the amount will probably increase.
Amid the success, Paramount has already confirmed the development of a fourth film. Although plot details are still being kept secret, fans assume that the new part will adapt the events of the cult platformer Sonic CD. Actor Jim Carrey, who played Dr. Robotnik in the previous parts, has also expressed his readiness to return to the image of the villain.
