The authors of the Classic Offensive mod for Counter-Strike, who wanted to recreate the atmosphere of the classic CS 1.6 with updated graphics, ran into obstacles from Valve, which made it impossible to release their project on Steam. Work on the mod lasted about eight years, and in 2017 it was approved under the Steam Greenlight program. The authors even discussed legal details with Valve, but in 2020, contact with the company was lost.

Despite numerous attempts to establish contact, the modders never received a response. In January 2025, their application to publish the mod on Steam was withdrawn without explanation. This was especially painful for the team, because they followed all official requirements and were ready to cooperate. The latest version of the mod was sent for review back in October 2024, but the rejection came only on January 11.

The Classic Offensive mod was created with the goal of bringing back the spirit of the original game to fans, including familiar mechanics, sounds, and weapon designs, but with updated graphics. The release was originally scheduled for December 25, 2024, but approval issues have put the very fact of the project’s release at risk, at least on the Steam platform.

The developers expressed deep disappointment with the current situation, stating that the team’s many years of work were essentially in vain. In conclusion, they addressed other enthusiasts with advice to carefully consider plans to publish their projects on Steam, especially multiplayer mods, since the likelihood of the application being rejected is high.
