The HotChips event brought fresh news to users: 512 GB memory modules will be shipped. They will use 8-layer DRAM chips. This technology will allow to surpass the boards of the previous generation in terms of power consumption - the new development will provide an opportunity to save 13% less energy than the previous one.
Samsung also notes that the transition to the new memory will take place no earlier than 2023, or even 2024. This is due to the high cost of components. However, Samsung has confirmed its intention to release DDR5-7200 server modules by the end of 2021.
