In a January report by Bloomberg, it was reported that Apple is conducting tests of an under-screen fingerprint sensor, but now there is information that the company ultimately intends to hide Face ID under the screen.
Previously, Bloomberg observers believed that such a fingerprint scanner would appear in the iPhone 13, but this will not happen. According to new information, the changes will affect only the processor, camera, cutout dimensions on the screen and the hertz of the display.
According to the experts of the publication, at the moment, the developers are going to distribute all the sensors for Face ID under the display. There can be two options for placement:
• devices of the premium segment will receive a sub-screen Face ID sensor, and cheaper versions of a smartphone - only Touch ID under the display;
• flagship gadgets will acquire a full-fledged face recognition scanner under the screen, and for budget ones the scanner will be located in the cutout of the screen, like on devices of the current generation.
Face ID under the screen coming soon
Last month it became known about the patented technology of placing the optical matrix under the screen. It allows you to read biometrics of your fingers or face.

At the moment, Cupertinos use Face ID and Touch ID as follows:
1. Fingerprint scanning is a more affordable, but less secure technology and is used in the basic iPad and SE smartphones, as well as in the MacBook.
2. The face scan is used only on numbered flagships.
It is not known how the company is going to implement Touch ID in its laptops, as the in-screen scanner will be inconvenient to use. Face ID will also be tricky due to the thin device covers. At the same time, according to the information of the same Bloomberg publication, in the future it is planned to completely abandon the fingerprint sensor.
