The founders of the Norwegian startup OceanTherm have come up with a new way to eliminate tornadoes. It is based on temperature changes. At the moment, this idea is only theoretical. Moreover, such a method can bring even more trouble to the environment and the inhabitants of the planet.
Hurricanes usually use water below 26 degrees to grow. This gives them the opportunity to grow to enormous sizes, which leads to disasters. OceanTherm representatives propose to cool the tornado during the formation stage, thus reducing the risk of potential destruction to zero. To do this, it is necessary to mix cold water from the depths of the ocean with the water mass on the surface.
The technological solution is called the bubble curtain. In theory, pipes will need to pump cold water from the bottom and then release it along the path of the hurricane. In this case, the pipelines can be fixed or they will have to be laid to eliminate a particular tornado. For the success of the enterprise, the curtain should be extended for several kilometers. The developers plan to test their technology in the Gulf of Mexico, but now they do not even have a ready-made scaled-down prototype.
The Norwegians' idea has been questioned by some scientists, who argue that these impacts can create a domino effect and further exacerbate the consequences of a natural disaster.
