SpaceX has posted a video on the network showing its new development. The Mechazilla tower, one hundred and forty meters high, is designed to facilitate the landing of the 1st stage of the Starship Super Heavy.
The tower was erected at the Starbase site in Texas. As conceived by the company's engineers, it will allow the rocket to join a special guide during its descent. This will help reduce the risk of engine failure during landing. The mechanism of action of the structure is more clearly shown in the video:
In addition, the tower, according to developers from SpaceX, will make it possible to reduce the intervals between launches of carriers compared to the currently used landing of the 1st stage on the offshore platform.
In March 2021, SpaceX made a test launch of the Starship prototype. After a few minutes after landing, it exploded, but the company recognized the tests as successful.
