Xiaomi plans to expand the possibilities of astronomical photography in its devices. A division of the Software Corporation has patented a technology called "Night Sky, Star Trails" based on the use of time-lapse photography.
The technology will make it possible to capture a time-lapse of stars across the sky at night. After activation, the mode will independently focus the camera on the sky, select the desired ISO settings, color correction and other indicators.
In the process of taking pictures, the device must be in one place so that the camera takes frames from the same point at the same time intervals. Next, the frames will be saved, processed and aligned into one image. The result should be a photograph with stars moving in the sky and their traces.
It is possible that the technology will be added to one of the upcoming smartphones with a powerful camera - for example, in Xiaomi 12 Ultra. The device should be presented in China in May.
