SEGA, on the back of the success of two parts of Sonic the Hedgehog, intends to adapt another of its legendary game franchises.
According to Deadline, Derek Kolstad, who worked on the John Wick trilogy, the action movie Nobody, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is writing the Streets of Rage adaptation. The project will be produced by dj2 film studios (Sonic the Hedgehog) and Escape Artists (The Magnificent Seven, The Great Equalizer dilogy).
Streets of Rage is one of the most popular action franchises, which gained popularity during the so-called "golden age" of the beat 'em up genre (late 80s - mid 90s of the XX century). With the advent of 3D graphics at the turn of the century, interest in such two-dimensional projects disappeared. However, in 2020, the series received a long-awaited continuation in the form of the fourth part, which was a success. It is quite possible that this was another signal for the beginning of the development of the film adaptation.
