Some background process restrictions often lead to malfunctions of the notification system on the Android OS. The upcoming thirteenth version of the operating system should get rid of this shortcoming.

In a fragment of the program code of the thirteenth version of the system, which is now at the stage of an open beta test, the presence of the MGLRU (Multi-Generational Least Recently Used) algorithm is noted. Previously, this feature was added to Chrome OS, which made it possible to increase the efficiency of background tasks.

According to information provided by a Google employee, in the process of testing a new feature on 1 million Android devices, it was found that when the kswapd process, which is responsible for virtual memory, was executed, the CPU load decreased by 40%. It also turned out that the forced stop of background programs due to a lack of RAM decreased by 18%. In addition, MGLRU makes it possible to significantly reduce memory consumption and reduce rendering speed.

It remains to be seen whether this feature will be integrated by default in Android 13, or whether device manufacturers will have to independently implement OS add-ons and their shells.

More details about Android 13 should be told at the Google I / O 2022 conference, which will be held May 11-12.
