The service for communication between Gmail accounts was introduced back in 2005.
According to information from the official blog, the service will be shut down on June 16th. Google advises users to export data for the remaining time and switch to the current Google Chat product, with which they can continue to communicate with their contacts without any problems.
Google has been systematically shutting down the application since 2013, motivating users to switch to other services with similar functionality. At the moment, the messenger is not functioning, but its protocol is still available to third-party applications like Pidgin. However, Google Talk will be closed within the stated time frame.
