Phoronix, a Linux distribution-related web resource, has tested several operating systems on the current hardware. As a result, Linux suddenly climbed to the leading position.

Linux is faster than Windows

The tests were carried out using the advanced Intel Core i9-12900K chipset. The ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-E GAMING Wi-Fi system gaming board, a pair of DDR5-6000 RAM sticks (16 GB), WD BLACK SN850 NVM Express storage (500 GB) and a Radeon RX 6800 XT video accelerator were added to the list of test platforms. The testers made a choice on such operating systems as: Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (including the version with the Linux 5.18 kernel) and Intel Clear Linux 36580.

The testers ran the operating systems on a hundred metrics. In the main standings, Clear Linux excelled, she managed to climb to the 1st line in fifty-five tests. Behind him was Ubuntu 22.04 with nineteen triumphs. Bronze was earned by Microsoft's operating system, which outperformed its opponents in sixteen tests. Fourth place was taken by Ubuntu 22.04 (Linux 5.18), which was the leader in thirteen metrics.

It must be said that the tests were conducted in non-game scenarios. Employees of the Phoronix portal tested the performance of all operating systems in video encoding and rendering, compression speed and virtualization. But at the same time, Windows in 72% of cases was inferior in speed to Linux distributions.
