LG offers to replace metro windows with transparent TV panels
LG Display, part of the South Korean conglomerate LG Group, has unveiled transparent OLED TV panels. They are designed specifically for equipping the cars of the city subway trains. The development will be tested on a concept train by Deutsche Bahn, the national railway company from Germany.

A similar technology has been used in subway trains in China and Japan since 2020. Now LG is counting on the transition from the Asian market to the global one. Thus, the company will offer the development to European and North American carriers.

LG Display says that the manufacturing process uses heavy-duty tempered glass to protect OLED panels from vibration and other mechanical stress. In total, several options for panels have been developed that can display information such as news reports, weather forecasts, routes, and advertising. The display will then be transparent.

A video from the Chinese subway shows that the panels can become opaque. Perhaps the technology will be of interest to various advertisers.
