A novelty from Corning will be able to protect the screen of a mobile device from cracking when dropped.

According to Gorilla Glass, Victus 2 will more effectively withstand drops on uneven surfaces, such as concrete, and will be as resistant to chips and scratches as the previous iteration of Victus glass. The latter, according to past statements by Corning, could withstand a fall of two meters.

When creating a new glass, the manufacturer intended to ensure resistance to drops from the height of the belt to rougher surfaces, because it is in such scenarios that the user most often drops the smartphone. In addition, the manufacturer notes that over the past four years, devices have become on average 15% heavier, and their size has increased by 10%, and this has significantly increased the load on displays during mechanical stress.

Corning conducted tests during which it turned out that Victus 2 can withstand drops from one meter to a concrete-like surface. In turn, the glasses of competing companies do not tolerate falls from half a meter or even less. Also, the new glass can withstand a 2-meter drop onto an asphalt surface and retain 4 times the scratch resistance of aluminosilicate.

Mobile devices with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 should go on sale in the very near future. Previously, glasses from Corning have already begun to be installed on Samsung devices. Probably, the novelty will appear in the upcoming Galaxy S23.
