Lexus is working on a manual transmission for electric cars
Electric motors do not need a classic manual transmission, but the engineers of the Japanese company still decided to develop an imitation of a manual transmission for electric vehicles.

Lexus Electrified lead engineer Takashi Watanabe said the development team finds the idea of implementing a simulated manual transmission for electric cars amusing. Work on it has been going on for 3 years. The developers shared the test results of the prototype in a video.

On the test video, you can see the presence of a tachometer, the coincidence of the rhythm of acceleration and the imitation of the sound of the engine. It is curious that in order to change gear, it is necessary to use the "clutch" pedal. If the pedal is not released in time, the car will stall. In addition, the test electric car has software that allows you to select the behavior of any car model with a classic engine. For example, the program can simulate the operation of a combination of an engine and a manual transmission of a Toyota Supra or a number of other legendary cars. The only thing the engineers couldn't reproduce for total immersion was the smell of gasoline.

In what model of an electric car such a simulated manual transmission can be involved is still unknown, but Lexus is closest to this. Interestingly, in February, Toyota intended to patent a technology that mimics a manual transmission for its vehicles. The Lexus brand is owned by Toyota Motor Corporation.
