Ubisoft canceled the game even though it was already at the release stage.
Information about the potential release of the game first appeared as a rumor on the 4chan forum. Further it was distributed by authoritative insiders. So, columnist Tom Henderson called himself a tester for Splinter Cell: Hunters. According to him, the title was a "royal battle" PvPvE format with a third-person camera view for thirty players. Henderson tested the game last summer, at the same time Ubisoft was supposed to announce the project, but this did not happen.
The gameplay was to be largely tied to the extraction of equipment from outposts that were guarded by NPCs. To get weapons and equipment, you would have to use the mechanics of hidden passage to the maximum: stealth would help to cope with superior enemy forces. The larger the outpost, the more valuable the loot hidden in it would be.
Eliminating opponents, the player could upgrade his character, the maximum level of upgrade is 6th. Also, various additional features would become available to him, up to invisibility. If the fighter died, then the player would be asked to take control of the "mercenary", who was supposed to hunt down spies. In the event of a successful game, gamers could again control the spy.
Unfortunately, Ubisoft decided to shut down the project even though it was already pushing for release. The reasons for the closure remain unknown.
