The film adaptation of the adventures of the famous tomb raider in 2018 with Alicia Vikander in the title role, although it was received coolly, was able to collect a good box office, so the continuation was expected. But this did not happen.

The director Ben Wheatley (High-Rise, Free Fire), who was supposed to direct the tape, told about the reasons for the cancellation of the sequel. According to him, everything was already ready for filming, but the coronavirus pandemic suddenly came, forcing the shooting process to be curtailed. As a result, Whitley left the project and filmed Meg 2: Hollow with Jason Statham, and Misha Green, known from the TV series Lovecraft Country, was to take his place. But even here it was not possible to arrange shooting, and as a result, the picture was simply canceled.
