Apple is already working on filing a patent.
A patent application has been posted online in which the camera and Face ID sensor are located under the screen. The document contains a detailed description of the technology. The text says that Apple intends to achieve minimal pixelation of the matrix at the location of the “island”. It is possible that we are talking about reducing ppi to a state where the image sensor could easily detect the owner’s face.
However, the resulting image will still have diffraction artifacts. To remove them, Apple intends to compare information from the two sensors and then programmatically correct the shortcomings. However, the documentation does not directly indicate the use of a dual front camera. The list of auxiliary sensors in the patent includes only proximity sensors, lighting sensors and a fingerprint scanner.
According to rumors, an iPhone with such an under-screen “island” may be announced next year in September. It will probably be the iPhone 16 Pro. It is also possible that new iPads and MacBooks will appear without cutouts on the screen.
