Tencent and Square Enix have officially announced the production of a mobile version of the MMORPG Final Fantasy 14. The new title is being created specifically for iOS and Android devices, and its development will be handled by Lightspeed Studios, which has become famous thanks to its mobile projects.
Information about the companies' cooperation appeared in the summer, when the game was registered with Chinese regulators. Now it has been confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will operate as an independent project, developed from scratch for mobile platforms and functioning independently of the existing version on PC and consoles.
The mobile game will retain key elements of the main campaign of Final Fantasy 14, including familiar social systems and game mechanics. Players will enjoy activities such as work, fishing, chocobo racing, as well as a dynamic change of day and night and weather conditions.
According to Square Enix CEO Naoki Yoshida, the new project will be a relative of the original game. The developers intend to transfer the grandeur of the plot and battle mechanics to mobile platforms, while preserving the spirit of the original.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will initially debut in China, and will then become available in other regions. However, the exact release dates have not yet been announced.
